by Sally on 19 January 2012 “Civil disobedience, that’s not our problem. Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem.” ~ Howard Zinn

by Sally on 23 November 2011 I diverge from my regular, cheery farm-food-freedom road to define the different political systems some of us discuss so feverishly on social media. Basically, the difference between types of political economies is the name on the title. Following are the most popular choices: Communism, Corporatism, Fascism, Free Market and Socialism.
Collectivism
The rights of the group supersede the rights of the individual. This explains why so many individuals are imprisoned and/or die under these systems: individuals get in the way of the group, as in, for example, . . . → Read More: Glossary: Political Economies

by Sally on 22 October 2011 Go here for current Ron Paul 2012 endorsements!
Why would a real food blogger vote for Ron Paul? Because he is for food freedom and he’s the ONLY candidate. He consistently votes against “food safety” laws. He would abolish the FDA and the USDA, both criminal organizations that work to support the corporations they silently openly represent under the guise of keeping us safe.
Because Ron Paul is right now sponsoring a bill to allow the sale of raw milk across state lines. Because . . . → Read More: Ron Paul: Possible High-Profile Endorsements

I always opt out of the scanner and go for the grope. In my not-so-humble opinion, anyone who walks thru that scanner is not smart enough to parent. Hopefully, they don’t already have kids because, after a few trips, they won’t be able to parent. Small comfort. I can’t keep my mouth from hanging open while I watch parents send their kids through a machine that irradiates them and shows them naked to the pervs behind the curtain. Who’s the sicker party?

by Sally on 21 December 2010 S510, the Monsanto GMO Protection Act, passed the Senate on Sunday night. Sunday night. They waited till a Sunday night when no one but they knew they would meet or that this would be the agenda.
“Wait,” asks little Virginia, “There was no vote. How did it pass?”
Correct, Virginia, there was not a vote. It passed by what is called Unanimous Consent. Which is actually a misnomer because there was no unanimous consent. There was unanimous keeping their mouths shut and their hands in their laps. . . . → Read More: It Doesn’t Get Any Dirtier Than This
by Sally on 13 December 2010 I’m doing our annual budget using the accrual method of accounting* because I like seeing the big picture. I’m a realist. Except when I’m actually writing checks in, say, a clothing store, which is when fantasy takes over. Which explains why I don’t carry a checkbook anymore. Or a credit card. We all have our tiny flaws.
First, let’s look at what we owe. Since we don’t have any car, house or fund payments, our part is easy. That leaves accounting for our household’s share of government debt, which . . . → Read More: Planning for 2011: The Budget
